The Special Taskforce of Dhaka Power Distribution Co. Ltd (DPDC) snapped the power lines of an office, three community centres and several streetlights under Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) yesterday after these ran up huge dues in electricity bills.
The 18 buildings and instalments in the Azimpur area under the DSCC owe the
DPDC Tk 1.98 crore (from December 12, 2013, until now) in power bills. Chief of the taskforce, Mohammad Munir Chowdhury, said the power lines were snapped after the DSCC crossed the DPDC’s February 23 deadline to pay the bills.
Chowdhury added that the DPDC was a corporate institution and it would take strict measures to stop the trend of non-payment of electricity bills.
