Put up strong resistance against militancy: IGP

Noting that militant activities are now under control due to the effective steps taken by law enforcement agencies, IGP AKM Shahidul Hoque yesterday asked the police officials to put up a strong resistance together with people against militancy through community policing, reports UNB.
 He came up with the directives while addressing a quarterly crime conference at the Police Headquarters where commissioners of all metropolitan police, DIGs of all ranges, superintendents of police (SPs), the chiefs of different police units based in Dhaka and senior officials of the headquarters took part.
The Inspector General of Police directed all field-level officials to control all possible crimes centring the upcoming union parishad elections. “Collect information together with people (meaning community policing), review the possible risk factors and take all-out preventive measures in this regard,” he added.
All SPs as well as officers-in-charge (OCs) concerned have to take effective measures so that no one can issue threat to opponent candidates and nobody can carry out the incidents of killing or forced disappearance ahead of the upcoming election, he said.
Shahidul Hoque also asked the field-level officials to ensure that nobody can grab polling centres during voting hours.
