Firoza Begum Gold Medal introduced at DU
Firoza Begum Gold Medal has been introduced at Dhaka University (DU).
Brig Gen (Retd) M Dowla, brother of late Singer Firoza Begum, handed over a cheque for Tk 60 lakh to DU Treasurer Md Kamal Uddin on Tuesday at the VC's office to this end. ACI Foundation has donated this money, said a release.
Vice-Chancellor of DU AAMS Arefin Siddique, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Nasreen Ahmad, Dean of the Faculty of Arts Md Akhtaruzzaman, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam, Chairperson of the Department of Dance Rezwana Choudhury Bannya, Chairperson of the Department of Music Leena Taposi, Chairman of ACI Foundation M Anis Ud Dowla and Firoza Begum's two sons-- Shafin Ahmed and Hamin Ahmed -- were present on the occasion. Out of the income of the donation, every year one vocal music artiste of the country selects by the DU Jury Board will be awarded with the medal. Prof Arefin Siddique thanked the ACI Foundation for introducing this gold medal at Dhaka University and hoped that this initiative would play an effective role to upgrade music world. The VC also paid his glowing tributes to the memory of late Firoza Begum.
Workshop on eContent development ends
An international workshop on capacity building of the teachers and IT staff of Bangladesh Open University (BOU) on eContent Development concluded on Tuesday at the eLearning Centre on BOU main campus, Gazipur, says a press release.
University Vice Chancellor MA Mannan was the chief guest in the concluding ceremony and handed over the certificates among the participants. He hoped that this training will definitely enhance the capability of the faculties to develop eLearning Courses.
A total of 31 faculties from Open School and Business School and IT people from eLearning Centre took part in the workshop which was commenced on Friday.
Dr ManasPanigrahi from Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia, New Delhi and AshutoshTraunk from Hindustan Times Media were the resource persons.
Concluding ceremony was chaired by Sadia Afroze Sultana, dean of Open School. Md Abu Taher, treasurer and Mostafa Azad Kamal, director eLearning Centre, spoke at the programme, among others. Deans and high officials of the university were present in the ceremony.
