The Feroza Begum Foundation was formed last year by her family, a year after her demise in 2014 in the memory of Feroza Begum, the most renowned Nazrul Sangeet singer both in Bangladesh and India. Recently, an initiative was taken to form Feroza Begum Memorial Gold Medal Trust Fund. The trust fund is being formed in the memory of Feroza Begum.
DhakaLive has news that to help establish the trust fund, a cheque worth Taka 60 Lac was handed over to the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique at the VC office yesterday. M Anis Ud Dowla, Chairman of Feroza Begum Foundation and brother of the legendary Nazrul Sangeet singer handed over the cheque. Among others, Feroza Begum’s brother Brig Gen (Retd.) Mosih Ud Dowla, her two sons, rock band Miles vocals Hameen Ahmed and Shafin Ahmed, and her niece and disciple Nazrul singer Shusmita Anis were also present.
The foundation will award gold medal and scholarships to the most deserving students of the Department of Dance and Department of Music of Dhaka University. Besides the foundation’s recent initiative, Shusmita Anis has opened Feroza Begum Archive on her official website: www.shusmitaanis.com. Shusmita Anis also dedicates her singing career to take forward the legacy of Feroza Begum.
