‘Meraj Fakirer Ma’ to be staged at BSA today

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) has organised a five-day commemorative event titled ‘Smriti, Swatta, Bhabissat’ to pay tribute to the nine noted deceased playwrights of the country this February—the month of language movement. Beginning on February 22, the event featuring seminar and staging of play will continue till February 26 at the premises of BSA, Segun Bagicha in the city.
As a part of the event, Theatre—one of the popular theatre troupes in the country, will stage their acclaimed play ‘Meraj Fakirer Ma’ today at 8:20pm at the Studio Theatre Hall of Shilpakala Academy.
Abdullah Al Mamun’s play ‘Meraj Fakirer Ma’ poses a few very important question of life: What is more important--relationship or religion? Should a son leave his mother if his views regarding religion differ from that of hers? In fact, through this satirical play, the playwright tries to bring out the human values and depict certain characters, who oppress people in the name of religion. Hasan Ahmed is the set designer, while Thandu Ryhan is the lighting designer of the production.
Earlier on the day, a seminar on playwright Nurul Momem was held at 5pm at Studio Theatre Hall, where Professor Dr Lutfor Rahman read out an essay titled ‘Nurul Momener Natya Srijan’ and SM Mohsin and M Hahid were present as discussants. Besides, another seminar on playwright Abdullah Al Mumun was held at 6:30pm at the same venue. Professor Dr Soumitra Shekhor read out the essay titled ‘Abdullah Al Mamuner Natoker Bishoysutra’, while Mohammad Jahangir and Kamal Uddin Kabir attend the event as discussants. Both the seasons of the seminar were presided over by Nasir Uddin Yousuf.
