BNP leader’s house vandalised
Benapole: Criminals vandalised the house of district BNP general secretary and aspiring UP chairman candidate SM Moshiur Rahman at Monirampur upazila on Monday, reports UNB.
Police and locals said a group of 25-30 people, allegedly led by his rival candidate’s younger brother, attacked the house of Moshiur, the current chairman of Shyamkur upazila, as he along with his followers were busy filing up nomination paper for the upcoming Union Parishad polls.
Panicked, Moshiur informed the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Monirampur police station officer-in-charge seeking protection.
He, however, filed his nomination paper through his wife and with the help of the local administration, said Monirampur police station OC Taherul Islam.
AL UP chairman candidate attacked
BHOLA: Criminals attacked Amdad Hossain Kabir, a chairman candidate of the ruling Awami League (AL), of Dhania Union Parishad, at Pakharmatha area here on Monday night, reports BSS.
The chairman candidate came under the criminal attack on Monday night while he was carrying out campaign at Pakharmatha area under Dhania Union in which five people including Kabir suffered grievous injuries.
Kabir was rushed to Bhola Sadar Hospital in critical condition.
Police held independent chairman candidate of Dhania Union Advocate Shoaib Hossain Mamun last night.
A case was lodged mentioning names of 17 people to this end, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bhola Model Sadar Police Station told BSS.
Abducted officials rescued
Khagrachhari: Two abducted officials of a contracting firm were rescued from an inaccessible area in Sadar upazila on Monday evening, eight days after their abduction, reports UNB.
Police rescued Md Ruhul Amin, 50, manager of the firm and his assistant Saifuddin Shahin Gazi, 35, blindfolded from Bhaibonchhora area of the upazila, said officer-in-charge of Panchhari Police Station Abdul Jabbar.
The duo, hailing from Pirojpur district, were abducted from Taltola area of the upazila on February 14.
It was not clear who abducted them and why.
15 auto-rickshaws burnt
Laxmipur: Fifteen CNG-run auto-rickshaws were burnt as the gas cylinder of an auto-rickshaw exploded at Charchamita Bazar in Sadar upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.
Monayem Hossain, an officer at Laxmipur Fire Service Station, said the explosion occurred around 3:30am at a garage of Momin Ullah in the area.
