The house of language hero Gaziul Haque is in bad shape and might collapse soon. There is no library and museum that can preserve the memory of this veteran of the language movement. The approach road to his house is also in dilapidated condition. Local people believe any step to preserve the memory and highlight the contribution of Gaziul Haque in establishment of Bangla as mother tongue will benefit the new generation. Born on February 13 in 1929, at Nischintapur under Chhagalnaiya upazila in Feni district the language veteran passed away on June 17, 2009 at the age of 80. His cousin Abul Hasnat said Gaziul Haque wanted to establish a high school in front of his house. If a high school can be established in his name here it will be a good effort towards showing respect to him, he said. Shirin Akther MP said: “We have taken a decision to give a road his name.”
