Banglalink job cut to continue: CEO

The ongoing job cut at Banglalink is not going to strop soon as the telecom operator did not change its stance on sacking employees.
“Bangalink will be a digital organisation to carry out its digital vision. And it will minimize departmental layers considering its future plan. So there is no alternative to job cut”, Erik Aas, managing director and CEO of Banglalink, came up with the remarks at a press conference in the capital yesterday.
The process of job cuts will be done marinating due process, said the Banglalink CEO.  Earlier, while Erik Aas was the CEO of Grammenphone, some high officials of the company lost their jobs.
The dismissal of employees by the operator started when the employees of Banglalink submitted a proposal for forming employees’ union on February 7.
On February 14, the employees abstained form work protesting unrest and
torture.  Mostaque Ahmed, a Banglalink employee, who is a victim of torture, is still in hospital.
“The employees of Banglalink are more skilled compared to other operators but we do not have any alternative to making our tem smaller,” the Banglalink CEO came up with the comment at a press conference in the capital.
Agreeing that there were some irregularities in Banglalink, Eric said: “We have breached contract with some vendors due to irregularities.” Some may face legal charges, he said adding some employees were also involved in the misdeed.
But theses are not corruption rather non compliance issues, he said adding it happened that is true. “We are trying to overcome that,” he said.
When asked how justified it is to sack employees when the company is in profit, the Banglalink CEO said the company only made profit in the third quarter. Blaglalink did not share profit but it gave bonuses to employees on evaluation, he said.
Banglalink wants to connect its customers to this digital world of the future and unlock its endless opportunities.  To achieve this, Banglalink is getting its organisation ready for the digital age.
“We believe that offering digital services is the path to the future,” explains Erik Aas, managing director and CEO of Banglalink. “The use of smartphones will grow tremendously, and enable our customers to have their digital lives literally at their fingertips – from entertainment to eCommerce, from financial services to self-service. To make this a reality for our customers, we at Banglalink are investing heavily into 3G and our organization, as well as our products and services.”
Going digital also means enabling society to benefit from technological progress. To help make this a reality, Banglalink supports the government’s ‘Digital Bangladesh by 2021’ initiative with several projects.
