SAVAR: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said yesterday said there is no obstruction from the government side to holding the council of BNP, reports BSS.
"It has become a habit of BNP to complain in all the matters. They (BNP) have failed, so far, to finalise even the venue of their council. The venue they have chosen primarily is not owned by the state," he said raising a question as to what the government can do if any institution doesn't permit holding of the council of a political party or programme at its place. The minister said this while talking to reporters after visiting road renovation works at Jamgarh on Ashulia Bypile-Abdullahpur highway at Savar yesterday.
Obaidul Quader said, "None of BNP has been obstructed from submitting nomination papers for ensuing Union Parishad (UP) polls. Many of them have already left their localities having cases of different categories and warrant of arrest against them." Re-clarifying his stance on freeing the roads from encroachment, the minister said the roads could not be completely freed from illegal occupation due to political influence. But, he announced freeing of the roads from illegal occupants within the next month.
Letting the reporters know that Savar EPZ would be connected with the elevated expressway up to the airport, the minister hinted that the contract for appointment of adviser for the mega project might be signed today (Wednesday).Senior officers of the Roads and Highways (R & H) were present during his visit to the site.
