The three-day ‘South Asian Cultural Convention against Imperialism and Communalism’, organised by Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigosthi, concluded on February 21 by forming a Mancha with a view to strengthen the bilateral and multilateral cultural cooperation, as well as the cultural relationship among the South Asian countries. A working committee consisting of 15 members, including president of Udichi central committee Kamal Lohani as convener, has been formed as a part of this Mancha.
On the concluding day, Kamal Lohani presented a declaration titled ‘Dhaka Declaration’, which was signed by representatives of Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka. The participants of South Asian Cultural Convention against ‘Imperialism and Communalism’, representing five countries--Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Nepal and Srilanka-- that include writers, artists and the cultural organisations, meeting in Dhaka, Bangladesh from 19 to 21 February 2016 have agreed to the following declarations: they appreciates Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigosthi and other cultural organisations and cultural activists for organising the Dhaka Convention as a symbol of their renewed promise to continue their struggle against Imperialism and Communalism; they remember and pay homage to all the martyrs along with martyrs of language movement of 1952, who sacrificed their lives in the fight against Imperialism and Communalism in South Asia as well as all over the world; and they will acknowledge the increasing need of strengthening the bilateral and multilateral cultural cooperation among South Asian countries and increased cultural relationship amongst its people. Only the united people can overcome the worldwide increasing tension and violence fuelled by religious fundamentalists, terrorist and the neoliberal anti people state. They recognise that countries in South Asia are seriously affected by the Imperialist Globalization, communal forces and religious fundamentalism. They, therefore, resolve to combat and overcome these dangers of menacing magnitude using our weapons of cultural.
Later, there were also cultural performances by foreign and renowned artistes of Bangladesh in the evening of all three-day of the convention. On the concluding day, artistes of Udichi Shilpigosthi presented a lyrical play titled ‘Swadhinatar Galpo’. Besides eminent West Bengal singers Subhendu Maity, Subha Prasad Nandi Majumdar, Kafil Ahmed, Sumi Rani Ray, among others and member of Udichi Central Committee Siddique Molla rendered songs at the event. l
