Shilpakala observes Amar Ekushey in style

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), the premier cultural organisation of the country, observed Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day in a befitting manner through two-day elaborated programmes. On the occasion of Amar Ekushey, BSA director general Liaquat Ali Lucky, along with his colleagues placed floral wreaths at the central Shaheed Minar at midnight on February 21. Besides, a cultural programme featuring participants from different languages was held at 3pm at the central Shaheed Minar as a part of observing Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day. At the programme, Dhaka Sangskritik Dal rendered a chorus song in different languages. Other attractions of the programme included the performances of foreign artistes and soloist performance of noted singer Abida Sultana. Artistes of ethnic minority groups, Chakma and Marma also performed songs in their own languages.
Later, an elaborated cultural programme was organised at the premises of BSA Nandan Mancha at 6pm, where popular singers Bappa Majumder, Rafiqul Alam, Yasmin Ali, Rathidranath Roy, Rukhsana Akhter Rupsa and Chandana Majumder, among others, mesmerised the audience with their solo renditions. Singer Akramul Islam left the audience spellbound with the rendition of a solo song in Sylheti language (dialect). On the other hand, led by Warda Rihab, artistes from different cultural organisations such as Dhaka Sangsritik Dal, Banglar Mati, Wrishijo Shilpi Gosthi and others presented group dance performance.
Earlier, on February 20, BSA arranged an art camp and cultural events at its premises. The art camp was attended by 60 artists including artist Hamidur Rahman, Abdul Mannan, Maksuda Iqbal Nipa, Chandra Sekhor Dey, Syed Hasan Mahmud, Debashis Pal, Samiron Chowdhury and others. Besides, BSA has organised a 13-day film festival titled ‘Nanan Bhasar Nanan Chalachitra’ from February 16 to 29 (Except February 27) at the National Theatre Archive. The festival, featuring films from different countries and languages, is screening one film each day from the International Digital Cultural Archive of BSA.
