A writ petition was filed with the High Court (HC) yesterday seeking a restriction on publishing or broadcasting statements of former Supreme Court judge Justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury about the judiciary. Supreme Court lawyer Advocate SM Zulfiqur Ali filed the petition with the related branch of the HC seeking a rule asking the government to explain why it should not be directed to take steps so that statements of Justice Chowdhury regarding the judiciary are not published or broadcast by the media. The information secretary has been made respondents in the petition. Later, Advocate AKM Ehsanur Rahman, counsel for the petitioner, told reporters that the petition was filed following some recent comments made by Justice Choudhury in some television talk shows, which undermined the dignity of the judiciary.
