Bangladesh-born Engineer Sayeef Salahuddin has been named as a recipient of the US Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers. This is the highest honour the US government bestows on science and engineering professionals in the early stages of their independent research careers. According to a White House press release, 105 researchers have been honored this year and they will receive their awards at a Washington, DC ceremony this spring. “These early-career scientists are leading the way in our efforts to confront and understand challenges from climate change to our health and wellness,” Obama said. “We congratulate these accomplished individuals and encourage them to continue to serve as an example of the incredible promise and ingenuity of the American people.” Sayeef, an associate professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at University of California, graduated in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from BUET in 2003 and received his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Purdue University in 2007.
