The 14-party alliance, led by ruling Awami League, yesterday postponed its human chain programme scheduled to be held on February 24 in all district headquarters, reports UNB. The ruling alliance has postponed the programme for the preparations of the upcoming union parishad polls across the country, said a press release. On February 15, Health Minister Mohammad Nasim, also and Awami League’s Presidium Member, announced the programme at a human chain in the capital to denounce BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s controversial remarks about the number of 1971 martyrs and for creating political campaign against Pakistan’s interference in Bangladesh’s domestic issues including the ongoing war crimes trial. The Election Commission is going to arrange elections to 4,275 Union Parishads in six phases starting on March 22 next.
