The Asia Cup will be a mission for Bangladesh to shrug off the shakiness in T20 cricket, a format in which their batsmen’s striker rate is poorer than the other countries. Since the tournament would provide them an ideal platform of taking the best preparation for the World T20, Bangladesh didn’t miss the chance to execute the plan what they designed during the one month long practice in different cities of the country.
One of the plans that they would like to execute is to play the aggressive brand of cricket, a style that is mandatory in T20 format. The other is to start the tournament with good note since the history says when Bangladesh get off to a good start, they do well in any tournament or bilateral series.
In the tournament Bangladesh will take on the Asian giants India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, all of which know well how to play this format of cricket. In contrast Bangladesh are yet to hone the art of T20.
“We have been practicing well to hone the T20 skill. In the last one and half month, we were in a practice to correct our mistakes, which we found after the T20 series against Zimbabwe. The practice has been good and the preparation is good enough. Now we are ready to execute the plan in the middle,” said Bangladesh all-rounder Mahmudullah Riyad.
Bangladesh though historically didn’t play T20 well, according to Riyad, the Asia Cup is a platform for them to create a upward spiral in this format.
“Hopefully the Asia Cup will be a platform for us to shrug off the shakiness. We will come up with aggressive brand of cricket what the T20 format demanded,” he said adding that one six could swing the momentum of the game.
Riyad said their confidence is now so high that they are upbeat to execute their plan of playing an aggressive cricket.
“Our confidence right now is high. We believed we can play exceptional and aggressive cricket. All of the players are determined to play the attacking game right from the start,” he informed.
“We are aware that the people say we are not good team in T20 cricket. Now it’s the high time to change the people’s mindset. It’s a challenge for us to prove us good team in this format. And it’s also challenge to improve our strike rate in this format. We believe if we can play aggressive brand of cricket, our strike rate will be improved.”
Riyad also heaped praise on Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, terming him an extraordinary leader.
“He has something that no other has. I don’t know what the something is but we feel he has something which made him an outstanding leader.”
The middle order batsman also gave Mashrafe advance congratulation on his achievement of being the UN Goodwill Ambassador.
“Though it is yet to be announced officially, I want to congratulate him. If he is appointed, it will make all of us proud.”
He informed that they want to do something exceptional in Asia Cup and World T20 to show a respect to Mashrafe’s contribution to the Bangladesh cricket.
“It will be great if we can give him any trophy be it Asia Cup or World T20. We’ll play for him.”
