Detectives in a drive arrested eight alleged members of an inter-district robber gang from Matuail in capital’s Jatrabari area early yesterday, reports UNB.
Tipped off, a team of DB (East) police, led by Zayed Shahrier, senior assistant police commissioner, conducted a drive in the area and arrested the eight alleged gang members while taking preparation to commit robbery in the guise of DB police around 4:16 am.
Police also recovered some weapons, walkie-talkies, handcuffs, DB jackets and seized a microbus.
The arrestees were Shahidul Islam Majhi alias Shaheed alias Quamrul Majhi, Yusuf Quazi, Abdul Malek, Malek Chowdhury, Jahangir Alam alias Jahangir, Mohammad Yeasin, Mohammad Badal and microbus driver Mohammad Abbas. The arrestees had long been involved in committing robbery in different parts of the city, in guise of DB police and they looted valuables.
