FARIDPUR: LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Engineer Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain yesterday called upon all concerned to speed up the disposal process of the pending cases in order to bring an end to the suffering of litigants, reports BSS.
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at a seminar of National Legal Aid Committee, Faridpur district unit, held at local Kavi Jasimuddin Hall yesterday. The seminar was chaired by District and Session Judge Zahidul Islam who is also the president of the unit.
The minister pointed out that this legal aid for the poor, insolvent and underprivileged people was first framed by the then Awami League government of 2000 led by present Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina which has become more people oriented and beneficial for the poor litigants.
Mosharraf also laid stress on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and mentioned that this is the best way to resolve litigation which is permanent having no adverse impact on the parties involved. He reminded the judicial officers about the famous ‘justice delayed, justice denied’.
Mosharraf also mentioned that it is better to stay off litigation as sometimes it becomes menace to the people. He said the village courts under his own ministry will be activated to avoid the hassle of people.
The chair of the seminar Zahidul Islam paying respect to the language martyrs of 1952 briefly spoke on the activities of legal aid office in this district and sought the cooperation of all concerned particularly the elected representatives to infuse momentum and create awareness among the people.
The common people is still not well versed to the fact that government provides free legal aid to the poor litigants, he mentioned. The elected representatives can publicize in their areas about free legal services, he added.
