The programme featured rendition of the national anthem, chorus, group-dance, patriotic songs, acrobatic shows, an art camp, and a children’s drawing competition. Presided over by BSA director general Liaquat Ali Lucky, cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor and secretary of the president’s office Bhuiyan Safiqul Islam attended the programme.
At the cultural sessions, actress-dancer Chandni along with others presented a mesmerising dance performance with the song ‘Oi Ujjal Din Daake’. A group dance with the song ‘Esho Mukto Koro Bhoy’, led by eminent dancers Zinat Barkatullah, Rahiza Khanom Jhunu and Laila Hasan, was also performed at the event.
Later, noted singers Subir Nandi, Samina Chowdhury, Tapan Chowdhury, Dinat Jahan Munni and Pulok rendered solo songs. Another attraction of the cultural segment included the performance by popular music troupe Joler Gaan as they performed their several hit numbers.
As a part of BSA’s founding celebration, a day-long art camp was held at National Art Gallery, which was attended by 40 eminent selectors, judges and artists, who have upheld the honour of Bangladesh with prestigious awards in Biannual Asian Arts Exhibition and National Arts Exhibition. Among others, Samarjit Ray Chowdhury, Ranjit Das, Rokeya Sultana, Kalidas Karmakar, Mrinal Haq, Dr Farida Zaman, Gulshan Hossain, and Anisuzzaman were also present during the camp.
Moreover, a children’s drawing competition and an acrobatic show were also arranged on the occasion.
To note, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman established BSA through an act of Parliament as a constitutional organisation under the Ministry of Cultural Affairs on February 19 in 1974. Now the Academy is functioning under the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Ordinance 1989.
Over the years, BSA has become the main hub for theatre practice, especially, after the establishment of the National Theatre Hall in the recent years. l
