Sheikh Jamal off to Singapore to play in AFC Cup

A new looked Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club led by Wedson Anselme left Dhaka for Singapore yesterday at 2:20 pm to begin their AFC Cup mission from February 23 taking on the Tampines Rovers of Singapore.
Sheikh Jamal, the successive two times champion,  who are first time representing Bangladesh in the top level club competition in the Asian soccer, had to see some troubles to form a strong side for the participation in the competition.
Despite, had to loan players from other clubs to form the squad at the final hour, newly appointed coach captain and the chairman of the Sheikh Jamal looked a bit confident before their departure for Singapore to do good result.
In fact, Sheikh Jamal, who could not keep the combination of the champions team, they had in the previous season, as a result could not send a strong side in the AFC Cup, though they could confirm the services of three vital foreign players, Wedson, Emeka and Landing.
The foreign trio actually played the key role for Jamal’s success and they are the main strength. And in this respect the defending Bangladesh champions are  not at all a weak team.
However, the team coach Shafiqul Islam Manik, who recently signed on a two years contract with Sheikh Jamal, said that it is a huge challenge for him. “Really, it is a big challenge for me to begin the job with a top level Asian competition, moreover I did not get the team in good shape, as most of the premier performers are not with the team.”
“Though I have only two or three days to organise the team but I am hopeful that it will not take time to have good combination among the players, as all the players in the team, knows each other and they played all together for long time and they are very cooperative.”
“I have no idea about the Singaporean side, I have two days more, will try to collect information after going there,” Manik replied to a query.
Wedson Anselme, the important performer of the team, who had the armband to command the team was not overwhelmed to have the leadership of the team but he want to make his first captaincy memorable one.
“You see, actually anybody can be a captain of the team, I am focusing on my performance but it is an honour I also fell so and want to make it memorable as a captain having the duty as leader and it is very much challenging, as we are also representing Bangladesh” said Wedson.”
Manzur Kader, the chairman of the Sheikh Jamal, who was very much disappointed after his leading performers leaving the club, now have some solace after reforming the team. Might be on loan, said, “I am satisfied with the team. Though mentally I am not well but I want to show a good result and believe the boys will do good.”
Sheikh Jamal clubbed  in Group E along other two other teams.  Selangor FA of Malaysia and Ceres La Salle FC Philippines.
