Speakers at a daylong workshop in the city yesterday stressed the need for family planning in every section of the society to build Bangladesh as a poverty and hunger-free country.
They also emphasised the need for collective efforts of all government and non-government organisations to control the population growth anyhow and help the nation advance towards development.
The discussants asked the physicians and the family planning officials to work with a difference and with more thrust so that the rate of growth of population stood at a stable stage and the mortality of mother and child is reduced. They called upon everyone to come forward to build a planned family for the betterment of future generation.
The speakers made this comment at the opening ceremony of a district level workshop with print and electronic media personalities held at the Family Planning Association of Bangladesh (FPAB) Training Institute, Khulna office at Sonadanga Residential Area in the city.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Khulna Md Nazmul Ahsan addressed the function as chief guest. Deputy Director of Family Planning Department, Khulna Guru Prosad Ghosh presided over the opening session.
Dr Ashit Kumar Sarnaker, Prabir Kumar Sen, Medical Officer of Mother and Child Welfare Centre, Khulna Dr Md Shamsul Hasan, among others, spoke on the occasion.
The speakers narrated various aspects of family planning and its importance and laid importance on bringing dynamism of the planning activities in the greater interest of making the country free from poverty and illiteracy.
They urged for bringing all able couples under the family planning programme without further delay and enhance the number of temporary contraceptives users among the target groups including the poor, underprivileged, aboriginal and backward communities.
They mentioned that the number of fertility rate among the poor people is more due to ignorance and various misconceptions and put special importance on creating awareness among them to make the family planning programme successful.
A total of 40 (forty) journalists particularly district correspondents of different national print and electronic media from Khulna district and local journalists were present at the workshop.
