On the occasion of celebrating the birth centenary of legendary folk music maestro Shah Abdul Karim, a year-long programme titled ‘Ami Bangla Mayer Chhele’ has been chalked out by Shah Abdul Karim Janmoshato Barshiki Udjapan Parishad—a platform formed exclusively for the birth centenary celebration of the Baul Samrat. Cultural affairs minister Asaduzzaman Noor inaugurated the year-long programme at the Nandan Mancha of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) on Tuesday.
Asaduzzaman Noor spoke about different aspects of Shah Abdul Karim’s life and works in the programme.
Presided over by the convener of Shah Abdul Karim Janmoshato Barshiki Udjapan Parishad Golam Kuddus, cultural affairs secretary Begum Akhtari Momtaz, BSA director general Liaquat Ali Lucky, researcher Mahfuzur Rahman, music artiste Kalidas Prasad and Udjapan Parishad member secretary Hasan Arif, among others, spoke at the event.
After the discussion session, a cultural show was held, where eminent singers Subir Nandi, Chandana Majumder, Fakir Shahabuddin, Shahnaz Belly rendered different popular songs of Shah Abdul Karim such as ‘Age Ki Sundor Din Kataitam’, ‘Sakhi Kunjo Sajao Go’, ‘Gaan Gai Amar Monre Bujhai’, ‘Dibanishi Bhabi Jare’, Jhilmil Jhilmil Kore Re Moyurponkhi Nay’, ‘Ailai Na Ailai Na’.
Besides, led by Sukla Sarkar, a dance performance with the songs of Shah Abdul Karim was also presented.
To note, the year-long celebration will be held at the different places across the county by turn.
