DUPS holds annual exhibition

Dhaka University Photography Society (DUPS) recently organised its 8th annual photography exhibition, titled Exploring the Imagination, featuring works by 19 photographers.
This year, we received 1,100 single photos and 27 photo stories. Out of those, 64 single photographs and five photo stories by 19 photographers were selected for the exhibition, said Nafiul Hasan Nasim, president of DUPS.
The selected photos were chosen by renowned photographers Abir Abdullah and Syed Latif Hossain. Each participant at the show received a certificate, a crest and souvenir.
The exhibition was inaugurated by AAMS Arefin Siddique, vice chancellor of Dhaka University. The Independent was the media partner of the exhibition, held Feb 9-12 at Drik Gallery in the capital.
DUPS is one of the most vibrant clubs of Dhaka University. It started its journey in 1999 with a mission to groom passionate photographers.
We have a certain selection process when it comes to recruiting new members. We try to observe his/her interest towards photography. DUPS allows young photographers a platform to showcase their talents. In this years show, seven of my pictures were selected. From a participants point of view, I am very glad to be a part of such an exhibition. New students who are interested in photography, I would recommend to them to come and see what we do, said Rifath Musharraf Borno, vice president of DUPS.
Every year, DUPS organises a number of events and activities, such as basic photography training, workshops, exhibitions, field trips, photography competition and other social activities.
I have been associated with DUPS since 2011.Working with them has helped me in a number of ways. For example, we arrange trips both at home and abroad, for members of DUPS, they only have to bear 10 per cent of the actual cost of those trips, Nasim said.
