Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said the government has no plan to create a separate ministry for tourism ministry, reports BSS.
She said a feasibility study is going on to build Lalmai of Comilla as an attractive tourist spot.
Replying to a question from Jatiya Party member Nurul Islam Milon in the Jatiya Sangsad the prime minister said the number of tourists has been increased remarkably in the country because of the steps taken by the government for development of this potential sector.
Sheikh Hasina said the government declared 2016 as the Tourism Year, expecting the number of tourists to increase up to 10 lakh this year.
The prime minister said there are more than 2000 archaeological sites in the country.
However, the number of preserved sites is 451. Annually, around five million tourists visit those archaeological sites, she said.
