Nur Uddin Morol, a valiant freedom fighter from Keshabpur, Jessore, yesterday submitted his deposition in the trial of crimes against humanity committed by nine alleged Razakars from the area, reports BSS.
Morol, 73, a peon of Sagardari Union Land Office, narrated how the accused Sakhawat Hossain, Billal Hossain, Lutfor Morol, Md Ibrahim Hossain, Sheikh Md Mujibur Rahman, Md Abdul Aziz Sarder, Qazi Ohidul Islam alias Wahidur Salam, Md Aziz Sarder and Abdul Khalek Morol, confined and tortured him and his fellow freedom fighter Chadtulla Gazi.
"They kept us confined at the Chingra Razakar Camp and put us on immense torture. On Kartik (Bengali month) 1, 1971, Razakars led by Sakhawat took Chadtulla to the bank of Kapotakkha.
There Sakhawat himself shot him dead," said the third prosecution witness (PW).
The septuagenarian witness broke into tears a couple of times as he described the horrific events of his life. Morol identified former Jamaat lawmaker Sakhawat, Billal and Lutfor, who were present at the courtroom and sought punishment for their 1971 crimes.
After his deposition, advocate Abdus Shukur Khan, counsel for Lutfor, Ibrahim, Mujibur and Aziz, and advocate Abdus Sattar Palowan, counsel for Sakhawat, cross-examined him.
Justice Anwarul Haque, chairman of the two-member panel of the ICT-1, then adjourned the hearing till February 22.
The first tribunal on December 23, 2015, indicted the accused framing five charges of crimes against humanity.
