Agitating local put barricade road for an hour protesting the killing of a man in an accident by a sand-laden truck in Chowmatha area of the city on Tuesday evening.
They also set fire to the truck after ransacking it. Vehicular movement came to standstill during the agitation.
Local fire service rushed to the spot and doused the flame. Later police personnel took the situation under control and vehicular movement started after 40 minutes.
The victim was identified as Prabir, 44, a motorcycle mechanic of S N Traders and injured one was Kalu, 26, his assistant.
Dr Masud, physician of Barisal Sher –e- Bangla Medical College Hospital, said condition of Kalu was critical.
Ataur Rahman, Kotwali police station officer in charge (investigation), said the sand laden truck (Dhaka-Metro-Ta-5874) plying on Chandmari-Kashipur route hit the motorcycle mechanic and his assistant while they were working at roadside workshop near Hatem Ali College in Chowmatha area at about 6pm.
Local people rushed to the spot rescued the victims and sent them to hospital.
The truck driver and helper managed to flee from the scene and agitated locals then set fire on the vehicle, the police official said.
Police seized the truck and filed a case in this connection.
