A Dhaka court yesterday placed a sub-inspector of Banani Police Station and two others on remand in different terms in two separate cases filed over alleged attempt of gold snatching and gold smuggling. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Abdullah Al Masud passed the order. Among the three, Sub Inspector Ahsraful Islam and police source Abdur Razzak, an expelled member of Air Force, were placed on three day remand each in a case filed for gold snatching. Meanwhile, alleged gold smuggler Rezaul Karim, who was accused of carrying the gold, was placed on a five-day remand in a case filed under the special powers act. Earlier, police sough seven days remand for all. On Monday night, SI Ashraf along with his source stopped Rezaul at Alubazar under Bangshal Police Station and tried to snatch five gold bars from him. As he shouted for help, pedestrians came and caught the police man and his accomplice. Later, the mob beat the two and handed them over to local police.
