�BRIBE FOR COVERING UP MURDER�
HC decision on Tarique�s plea Mar 16
The High Court (HC) yesterday fixed March 16 for delivering its order on a petition filed by BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman and three others for quashing a case that accuses them of taking bribe to save an influential person. It is alleged that Tarique and others took bribe to cover up the murder of the 2006 murder of Bashundhara Group Director Humayun Kabir Sabbir allegedly by Shafiat Sobhan Sanvir, son of Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan alias Shah Alam. The three others are: former state minister for home Lutfozzaman Babar, Bashundhara Group Director Abu Sufian and businessperson Kazi Saleemul Huq Kamal. After hearing on the rule, an HC bench comprising Justice Ruhul Kuddus and Justice Mahmudul Huq fixed the date for delivering its verdict. Barrister AJ Mohammad Ali and Barrister Mahbubuddin Khokon appeared for the petitioners while Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan argued for Anti Corruption Commission (ACC). Bashundhara Group Director Humayun Kabir Sabbirs body was found outside a building in Bashundhara residential area on July 5, 2006. On October 4, 2007, ACC Deputy Assistant Director Abul Kashem filed a case with Ramna Police Station against six persons, including Lutfozzaman Babar, for taking bribe worth Tk 21 crore.
