Govt fishing in murky waters, says Fakhrul
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam yesterday said the government is trying to fish in murky waters by filing sedition case against party chairperson Khaleda Zia. He also accused the government of hatching new conspiracies to immorally retain power for a long period. The BNP leader was addressing a discussion meeting organised by National Peoples Party, an ally of 20-party alliance, at Photojournalists Association in the capital demanding withdrawal of sedition case against the former premier. Fakhrul alleged that as part of the government conspiracy, a sedition case against Khaleda was filed by distorting the comments of the BNP chief. He termed the BNP and 20-party alliance as pro-liberation forces and called upon the people to raise their voices to foil the government conspiracy. The government is running the country as an authoritative ruler. Terrorism and militancy is on the rise in the country for these reason, he added. Presided over by NPP chairman Dr Fariduzzaman Farhad, the meeting was addressed by, among others, Kallayan Party chairman Maj Gen (Retd) Syed Muhammad Ibrahim, Jagpa chief Shafiul Alam Prodhan, NDP chairman Khandaker Golam Mortuza and IOJ chairman Abdur Rakib.
