Ferry service on the Paturia-Daulatdia route resumed yesterday after 5 hours of its disruption caused by dense fog. Abdus Sobahan, assistant general manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Aricha, said they kept suspended ferry service on the Paturia-Daulatdia route from 4:00am to 9:00 am due to blurred visibility caused by dense fog. Earlier, the ferry service on the route was suspended around 4:00am as thick fog enveloped the area. Nine ferries remained stranded at Paturia and Daulatdia ghats. Mohiuddin Rashel, manager of BIWTC Aricha, said seven ferries—Ranjigandha, Kaberi, Motiur Rahman, Shah Makhdum, Shahjalal, Khan Jahan Ali, Hasna Hena and Barkat-lay stranded in the mid-river. About 500 vehicles, including buses, trucks and cars, remained stranded along with several thousand passengers in the mid-river and on both ends of the important route.
However, the ferry services resumed around 9:00 am as fog started disappearing with sunrise.
