Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) appointed professor Quamar Afroze Ahmed as the new team manager for Bangladesh women’s cricket team ahead of the upcoming ICC Women’s World Twenty20 2016.
Former skipper Shafiqul Haq Heera was team’s previous manager during the last tour of Bangladesh Women’s team in Pakistan and Thailand.
Quamar Afroze had joined BCB women’s wing in 2006 as member. Thereafter, she became member secretary of the wing in the period of 2007-2008.
Afroze, who is now the head of department of Botany in Dhaka College, took the charge of the women’s team as its manager when Bangladesh went to Sri Lanka in 2008 to play the fourth edition of Women’s Asia Cup. She was also in charge when the team played World Cup in 2011 at home den.
She played cricket in 1978-79. Abahani Club Limited led by Nazma Shamim toured India to play a one-match series at Eden Garden in Kolkata in 1984.
MA Awal Chowdhury, chairman of BCB women’s wing, admitted the matter of Afroze’s appointment as women’s team manager and said that they appointed her for women’s team prior to the World T20.
“Keeping World Twenty20 in mind, we’ve made some changes for the Women’s team so that they could perform well. We’ve appointed batting coach for their batting improvement. Along with that, we’ve appointed a women’s team manager for the team,” said Awal Chowdhury.
The board meanwhile announced Bangladesh squad for the showcase event. Eve’s team will resume their practice for the World T20 at BKSP on February 19.
