Kalashindur Government Primary School of Mymensingh Division retained the crown of the Bangamata Fazilatunnesa Gold Cup football tournament defeating Khordokour Government Primary School of Rajshahi Division by 3-1.
In the Bangabandhu Gold Cup Primary School tournament Rajakhali Government Primary School of Chittagong Division emerged the champions when they defeated Moricha Government Primary School of Rangpur Division by 3-2 in a tie breaker after a one all draw of the 40 minutes stipulated and 15 minutes extra time.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina distributed prizes among the winners as chief guest when she also enjoyed the final match of the kids at the Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday.
With great enthusiasm a total of 10,79,653 boys from 63,509 schools participated in the first round of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup Primary School Football tournament across the country while in the Bangamata Gold Cup tournament, 10,78327 student from 63,431 schools took part in the girls competition.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged teachers to create opportunity of sports and other extracurricular activities in every school to help students flourish their talent and skill in addition to regular learning process as she enjoyed the final matches of the Bangamata and Bangabandhu Gold Cup football tournament at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
The PM appreciated the skill of the tiny-tot players and thanked them for presenting an excited final as she was highly pleased to see the match of the kids and enjoyed the match with great enthusiasm.
"Sports and cultural activities will keep our children healthy, develop their spirit of competition and help improve their mental and physical growth. Side by side, attraction to sports would prevent them from involving in any unsocial activities like drug and crime which is crucial to build up future leadership of the country," she said.
“I enjoyed the match, it’s great. Really it is different taste and enjoyable moment to watch a match sitting on the gallery with munching chestnut.
Prime Minister was also excited to see the performance of the kids as she said, “It’s nice to see, what a good performance they did, I think they could beat the seniors.”
“Boys and girls will never be derailed if they have passion for sports with the practice of sports and culture they will have sound body and sound mind and will be able to lead the nation.”
Meanwhile, Minister for Primary and Mass Education Mostafizur Rahman, Deputy Minister for Sports Arif Khan Joy and President of Bangladesh Football Federation Kazi Salauddin were present on the occasion, among others.
The first phase of both Bangabandhu and Bangamata Gold Cup tournament was organised from the grass roots of Union, Upazila, District and Division level and the seven divisional champions qualified in the final phase held in Dhaka. Rangpur, Rajshahi, Khulna, Dhaka, Chittagong, Barisal and Sylhet divisions moved into the final round.
The girls of the Kalashindur Government Primary School, Dhobaura of Mymensingh Division became eminent when 10 students were in the 18-men squad of the Bangladesh national Under-14 team who won the SAFF Championship title last year held in Nepal.
Kalashindur School’s girls, who have already set a record to become successive three times champion in the tournament, came from a goal down to snatch the victory.
Shamima of Khordokour Government Primary School, Bagmara of Rajshahi Division led with an early strike but Jerina, Pritu and Rozina struck one each to win the match for the champions.
In the Bangabandhu Gold Cup, Bipul scored for Rajakhali School, Cox’s Bazar of Chittagong Division and Asif Hassan scored for Moricha Primary School, Dinajpur of Rangpur Division in the scheduled and extra time.
