Woman killed over dowry Staff Reporter
A woman succumbed to injuries at a private hospital in the capital on Thursday night, after she was allegedly tortured by her husband over dowry. The victim was identified as Soma Akhter, 23, an intern nurse of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). Employees of Comfort Hospital in Kalabagan detained the victims husband Aminul Islam, as he tried to escape from the hospital. Later, he was handed over to the police. Soma got married to Aminul about a year ago and her uncle Nurul Islam alleged that Aminul killed Soma over dowry. Since their marriage, Aminul was demanding Tk 20 lakh dowry, he said. On Thursday, Aminul brought Soma to their Kalyanpur home where she was tortured following dowry related disputes. There were several marks of injuries on her body, said sources.
