Worker killed in road crash
A DWASA worker was killed and three others injured as a truck crashed into them where they were doing water pipeline installation work in front of Dhaka Udyan Housing Project in Mohammadpur area early yesterday.
Firoz Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur Police Station, said a sand-laden truck slammed into four workers—Shahin, Jewel, Forhad and Ramjan—while they were digging soil for setting up DWASA (Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority) pipeline in the area around 3am, leaving them injured.
4 arrested with gun, bullets
Police in a drive arrested four people along with a double-barrel gun and two rounds of bullet from Narisha Paschimchar area in Dohar upazila on Monday.
The arrestees were identified as Md Shahin Khandakar, 42, Md Sumon, 30, Masud Choudhury, 27, and Md Philips, 18, all residents of the area. Officer-in-charge of Dohar Police Station Sheikh Sirajul Islam said on secret information police conducted a drive in the area and arrested them along with a double-barrel gun and two rounds of bullet.
Schoolteacher’s house looted
Robbers looted valuables from a house of a schoolteacher in Madina Market area of the city early yesterday.
Asharaful Islam Chowdhury, assistant headteacher of Kalibari City Model School, said a gang of masked robbers entered his house by breaking open the gate. Later they held the house inmates hostage at gunpoint and tied up them with rope. Then the bandits looted 11 tolas of gold, Tk one lakh and eight mobile phone sets. On information, police from Jalalabad Police Station visited the spot, said Shymal Datta, officer-in-charge (investigation) of the police station.
Woman killed in road mishap
A woman was killed on the spot when a brick-laden human hauler knocked her down in Kismat Kukhundi area under Matiher Police Station in the city yesterday morning, police sources said. Soon after the accident, the local mob set the human hauler on fire. The deceased was Rina, 23, wife of Asgar Hossain of the same area. Ashok Chowhan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Motiher Police Station, said the woman met the accident while she was going to a nearby bazaar around 9.30 am.
LGED meeting held in Ctg
A review meeting on implementation of development projects and programmes of the government through LGED (Local Government Engineering Division) for the year 2015-2016 was held at LGED Bhaban in Chittagong on Friday. The meeting was chaired by LGED Chief Engineer Shyama Prosad Adhikari. In the meeting Shyama Prosad Adhikari gave the all direction to implement 100 per cent projects of current development programmes. Among others present in the meeting are Additional Chief Engineers, Superintending Engineers Executive Engineers, Senior Assistant Engineers, Assistant Engineers, Upazila Engineers, Sub-Assistant Engineers, and Consultants of Advisory Organizations fall under Chittagong Division.
