Man gets life in imprisonment for raping

A court on Tuesday convicted a man and sentenced him to life in prison for raping a girl.Tanjina Ismail, Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-5 in Dhaka, made the order as she found Mohammad Jahangir Alam, son of Malam Miah of Char Shibpur village in Banchharampur upazila of Brahmanbaria district, guilty, reports UNB.
The judge also fined him Tk 2 lakh. If the man fails to pay the amount he has to serve another three years of rigorous imprisonment.  The court asked the authorities to give the money to the victim. The defendant used to live in South Pirerbagh in the capital’s Mirpur area where the incident took place.
According to prosecution, the convict raped the girl who is physically-challenged at South Pirerbagh on March 29, 2014.
The victim’s father Abul Kalam filed a case with Mirpur Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on April 2, 2014 and police arrested Jahangir.
Sub-inspector of Mirpur Police Station Ataur Rahman, also investigation officer of the case, submitted a charge sheet against Jahangir on May 31, 2014. The court indicted him on August 26, 2014.
