Upazila chairman sent to jail

A Chapainawabganj court sent the chairman of Gomos­tapur upazila and BNP leader, Bairul Islam, to jail rejecting his bail pra­yer in an explosive case yesterday. Chapainawabganj court inspector of police Mahbub Alam said Bairul Islam surrendered to the court of a judicial magistrate in a case filed for killing the helper a truck by setting fire to the vehicle and prayed for bail. But the judge of the court Shahidul Islam rejected his prayer and sent him to jail. The truck helper --Salim -- was killed as a petrol bomb was thrown on a goods-laden truck at Nimtala Kathal in Gomostapur  upazila in Chapain­awabganj on March 5, 2015. Bairul was an accused in the case. He had been absconding for a long time, the sources said.
