Speakers at a discussion yesterday afternoon said the third world countries are dependent on the developed countries and the biggest weakness lies in our backwardness in science education. This dependency has sharply divided the world. We have to adopt a more scientific lifestyle to overcome the limitation.
Science is the most powerful weapon to neutralise the inclemency of nature and adaptation of climate change. Science education means something more than merely using machines and equipment. A man educated in science has to have a broad outlook when it comes to addressing socio-economic issues, they added.
The discussants further said the competition will make science more interesting to the young learners. It will also help them understand that there is no alternative to science education in the modern world. The speakers were addressing a three-day inaugural function of 37th National Science and Infornation and Communication Week-2016 on the premises of Khulna Collectorate Bhaban in the city. Khulna district administration have been organising the fair calling for development of science education to face the challenges of time.
Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Abdus Samad addressed the inaugural session as chief guest and he formally opened the fair. Deputy Commissioner of Khulna Md Nazmul Ahsan presided over the function. Deputy Director of Local Government Division (LGD), Khulna district Habibul Haque Khan and Superintendent of Police, Khulna Md Habibur Rahman were present as special guests. Additional deputy commissioner (education and ICT) of Khulna Md Moniruzzaman delivered the welcome address. The fair will remain open for visitors from 2 pm to 8 pm everyday. A total of 27 stalls have been set up at the fair venue for display. Academics, elites and artistes coming from different parts of the country will hold seminars on ICT, debate competition and cultural functions during the fair, the fair control room sources said.
