STAFF REPORTER, Khulna

Speakers at a views exchange meeting yesterday stressed media can play a key role to uphold democracy and protect human rights. So, journalists should concentrate on presenting objective and credible news.
They said, “Proper utilisation of human resources, particularly the youths who account for 55 per cent of the total population, can take the country ahead towards establishing a Digital Bangladesh by 2021.”
They also underscored the need for ensuring social stability and improving the law and order situation for the advancement of the country. They vowed to work together staying above politics, and sought cooperation from all in this regard. Terming Khulna the most potential and commercially important district, they said that the country would move forward, if Khulna gets developed. A views exchange meeting was held at VIP lounge of Khulna Press Club in the city with the newly joined Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Khulna Md Nazmul Ahsan and local journalists.
DC Nazmul said people have the right to know the government’s activities and decisions. He stressed the need for freedom of press for safe-guarding democracy in the country. DC Nazmul said coverage of success stories in newspapers would inspire the achievers to get more involved in such activities for the well-being of the people. He urged journalists to publish more news on the problems and development of Khulna.
Nazmul Ahsan said Bangladesh would progress in all sectors if media avoids disseminating partial news. A report can cause great harm to a person, so journalists should cross check information gathered before releasing it, the DC added. Convener of Khulna Press Club (KPC) Sheikh Abu Hasan presided over the meeting.  Former president of KPC Mokbul Hossain Mintu and Wadudur Rahman Panna, member secretary of KPC Mahbub Alam Sohag, among others, spoke on the occasion.
