First prosecution witness (PW) in the trial of nine alleged Razakars from Jessore submitted his deposition, narrating the heinous crimes committed by former Jamaat lawmaker Sakhawat Hossain and his cohorts in 1971, reports BSS.
Gaziur Rahman, 62, an inhabitant of village Chingra under Keshobpur Police Station in Jessore, described how his father Chadtulla Gazi was captured, tortured and subsequently gunned down by the accused.
"My father was the president of Sagardari Union Awami League at that time.
Sakhawat and his men raided our house on a day in mid-Bhadra (Bengali month) in 1971.
They nabbed my cousin, started beating him and were asking for whereabouts of my father. Following the order of Sakhawat, Razakars looted our house and set it on blaze."
"As my mother with my 18-month old brother in her arms, caught the legs of Sakhawat and started pleading for mercy, he kicked her aside. My mother fell on a bench, injuring my toddler brother severely. He died 17 days later without any medication whatsoever," said the witness.
Gaziur said Sakhawat and his men again raided their house on 28 Ashwin (Bengali month) and detained his father. They tortured him for 3-4 days and later Sakhawat himself gunned him down.
After his deposition, the defence cross-examined him and Justice Anwarul Haque, chairman of the three-member panel of the ICT-1, adjourned the hearing till today.
