UK for joint efforts to combat terrorism

UNB

UK Minister of State for Immigration James Brokenshire arrived in Dhaka yesterday morning on a two-day visit and discussed shared priority issues including tackling illegal immigration, organised crime and violent extremism, reports UNB. This is his first visit to Bangladesh and the first visit by a British Home Office Minister from the recently elected government.
“On this visit we hope to build on our joint efforts to combat the global threats of terrorism and illegal migration,” a British High Commission statement quoted Brokenshire as saying.
The UK Minister said they have a vibrant bilateral relationship including their strong trade ties.
“I am especially proud of the strong people-to-people ties that exist between the two countries through our half a million strong Bangladeshi diaspora,” Brokenshire was quoted as saying.
The minister held meetings with Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali, Law Minister Anisul Huq, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan and Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque, said ministry officials.
He is scheduled to hold a meeting with civil society members before his departure to discuss shared priority issues for the UK and Bangladesh. The UK Minister is scheduled to leave Dhaka on Monday morning.
