Cops’ lost arms recovered
Brahmanbaria: A rifle and a shotgun, which went missing after a boat carrying a patrol team of police capsized in the Meghna river near Ashuganj on Friday morning, were recovered on Saturday afternoon, reports UNB.
Mohammad Selim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Ashuganj Police Station, said a team of divers of fire service pulled out the two firearms from Tajpukur area of the river around 1pm.
Earlier on Friday, the rifle and the shotgun went missing as the boat carrying four policemen on patrol sank in the middle of the river due to a collision with an oil-laden boat coming from the opposite direction.
Two policemen were also injured in the crash.

FFs get Tk 3.70 cr as allowance
JOYPURHAT: The government has distributed over Taka 3.70 crore as allowance among 771 freedom fighters (FFs) of the district during the last six months in the 2015-16 fiscal year, reports BSS.
Department of Social Welfare distributed Taka 8,000 per month (July to Dec-2015) as allowance to each freedom fighter to help them lead a better life.
From January-2016 the freedom fighters will get Taka 10,000 each as the allowance from the government.
Deputy Director of the department Nur Mohammad said the freedom fighters are being given the allowance as a mark of deep respect to them.

7 shops gutted in Panchagarh
PANCHAGARH: Seven shops were gutted by a devastating fire at Nutonhat bazzar under Boda upazila of the district on Saturday night, reports BSS.
The fire originated from an electric short circuit from a shop in the bazzar and soon engulfed the adjacent shops.
Being informed, a unit of fire fighter from Boda rushed to the spot and doused the flame after one hour of frantic efforts with the help of locals, local sources said.
The affected shop owners claimed that the losses from the fire would go up to taka 10 lakh.

Ekushey Book Fair begins
NARSINGDI: The two-week long Amar Ekushey Book Fair began at Narsingdi Government College Premises here on Saturday, reports BSS.
Secretary, Ministry of Education Mohammad Shorab Hossain inaugurated the fair as the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner, Narsingdi Abu Hena Morshed Zaman in the chair.
Principal of Narsingdi Government College Shirajul Islam, Police super Narsingdi Amena Begum BPM, General Secretary of Bangladesh Mathematics Olympiad Monir Hasan, Chairman of Sadar Upazila Parishad Monzur Elahi were present in the function as special guests.
