Sherpur: A mobile court fined a trader Tk 50,000 for lifting sand illegally from the banks of the Moharashi River in Jhinaigati upazila on Saturday, reports UNB.
Led by executive magistrate and Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Selim Reza, the mobile court conducted the drive in Shalchura area near the river in the afternoon.
The court realised the fine of Tk 50,000 from trader Sirajul Islam, 35, son of late Tofazzal Hossain of the city’s Gouripur area, for extracting sand illegally from the banks of the river.
UNO Selim Reza confirmed the incident, saying that the drive was conducted upon receiving information that a group of unscrupulous traders were illegally extracting sand using shallow machines.
