Indira Gandhi Culture Centre (IGCC) is organising an evening of Hindustani Classical Vocal Music by Indian singer Sarathi Chatterjee at the IGCC’s Gulshan premises. Sarathi Chatterjee is one of the leading exponents of Hindustani Classical Vocal Music in India. Born in a family of musicians, he was trained under his father, Professor Arun Kumar Chatterjee, an accomplished representative of the Kirana Gharana, and won the first prize at the All India Radio Music Competition at the age of 17. His early spark of talent matured into musical sophistication, artistry and virtuosity, under the guidance of the celebrated vocalists Pandit Rajan-Sajan Mishra of the Benaras Gharana.
Sarathi’s classical treatment of ‘Ragas’ has won him acclaim for maintaining the traditional purity without any dilution. Apart from Khayal Gayaki, Sarathi is also an accomplished performer of romantic musical styles such as Thumri and that of devotional music such as Bhajans.
