Indian opening batsman Murali Vijay insisted his side wouldn’t give up hopes of victory and would push for it if weather permits. “That’s our attitude and that’s our mindset at the moment. Hopefully, weather permitting, we can push for a win,” Murali Vijay told the reporters after the third day’s game was abandoned. “Harbhajan and Ashwin are different types of bowlers. The wicket is deteriorating and it’s going to help both of them,” he added. But he is aware that they would have to do something special to force a result. “We cannot do much about the weather, because it’s not in our hands. All we planned was to play positively and that’s what we wanted to do throughout the day. But unfortunately, play couldn’t take place on the whole day. I think we’re in a good position now and hopefully we can do something special in the last two days,” Vijay thinks. Rain interrupted the progress of the match repeatedly on day three which made it difficult for Indian batsmen. “It is difficult to get back after so many breaks, but you know, you’ve got to do it. Being a professional you cannot give excuses on those aspects,” he added. The opener said that he set his plan to hang in the flat-track and extended the score for the sake of the team.
“The wicket was a good one to bat on initially and then it became slower, so I had to adjust the pace of my innings according to that. Actually Shikhar gave us a brilliant start and I just wanted to hang in there and play as long as possible,” he points out. “To be honest, I was not batting at my best. I just wanted to adjust to the surface and not give my wicket away and that was my priority. After a point I knew the bowlers will get tired, and because they had four spinners, I wanted to cash in then.” He said that the way he dismissed that should not be right for him to play the shot at that moment of the innings. “I was not thinking too far ahead. I just wanted to play a little more positively to push the score close to 500 because I knew the rain was coming. That was my plan at that moment, but I thought I picked the wrong ball to play the shot,” the 31-year-old said.
