Bangladesh men’s football team will face the Indian hurdle when they will play their semifinal match of the ongoing SA Games at the Indira Ghandi Stadium, Guwahati today. The match will take place at 2pm (BST). Bangladesh the defending gold medalist, won their first time gold medal in the games in 1999 in Kathmandu while they won the silver in 1984, 85, 89 and 95 and won the bronze medal for once in 1991. However, this time, to retain the gold medal, Bangladesh had to struggle much to book their semifinal berth when they saw a huge blow in their opening match against Bhutan when they could just manage a 1-1 draw to keep their hope alive to move forward. Bangladesh was also a bit lucky, as they had good options to make their place for semifinal when Nepal made it easy with defeating Bhutan by a big margin of 5-0. In fact, the Bhutan’s crushing defeat to Nepal was a big bonanza for Bangladesh, as if, in the last match against Nepal they (Bangladesh) could have been afforded to a 4-0 defeat. But the defending champions of the, bounced back well to grab a deserving 2-1 win after coming from a goal down against the day’s favourites Nepal to qualify for semifinal as the Group B Champions.
Now it has become great challenge for Bangladesh when they will face India in the semifinal. India, they top contenders to win the Games gold, had to suffer a defeat at the hands of Sri Lanka in their group leg match and managed the semifinal berth as the Group A runners up.
But Indians always appear as strong hurdle in front of Bangladesh while they (India) might be use to play their best games against Bangladesh.
