2 cops hurt in boat capsize

Brahmanbaria: Two policemen were injured as a patrol boat capsized in the Meghna River near Ashuganj yesterday morning, reports UNB.
Shahriar Al-Manun, senior assistant police super of the district, said constables Abdul Mannan, 45, and Humaun Kabir, 46, of Ashuganj Police Station suffered injuries when the boat, carrying four policemen, sank in the middle of the river due to a collision with an oil-laden boat coming from the opposite direction.
Two policemen swam ashore while locals rescued Mannan and Humayun from inside the capsized boat immediately afterwards.
One rifle and a shotgun also went missing in the incident.
The injured were sent to a local hospital.
 

Girl dies for ‘wrong treatment’

A minor girl died due to a suspected wrong treatment by a village doctor at Mobarakpur in Monirampur upazila on Thursday night.
The deceased has been identified as Mim, 6, daughter of Saifullah.
Mim was taken to the Monirampur health complex by her father after she was bitten by stray dog on Thursday. But he had to return home without getting any treatment there for his daughter because there was no supply of vaccine required for such medication. The poor man also could not buy the vaccine from outside pharmacy.
As he had no other alternative Saifullah took his daughter to ‘Kabiraj’ Thakur Paul for treatment. But the girl died at night for alleged wrong treatment, said Saifullah.
 

50 injured in B’baria clash
Brahmanbaria: At least fifty people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers in Ashuganj upazila yesterday, reports UNB.
Quoting locals, police said a clash ensued between the villagers of Khariyala and Moishar following an altercation between two men of the villages over parking a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in front of a shop in Khariyala villages adjacent to Dhaka-Sylhet highway around 12am.
The villagers of the two villages, equipped with locally made weapons, attacked one another, which left at least 50 people injured. The vehicular movement on the highway came to halt for an hour following the clash.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control around 2.30pm. The law enforcers had to fire rubber bullets and teargas shells and charged batons to calm the situation. The injured were admitted to different local clinics. Additional police members have been deployed in the area to avoid any unpleasant situation.
 

Rail link between Dhaka and northern region snapped
Pabna: Train communication of Dhaka with northern parts of country has been snapped since yesterday afternoon following the derailment of an intercity train in Chatmohar station area of Chatmohar upazila headquarters,
reports UNB.
Shawkat Jamil, divisional traffic officer (DTO) of Bangladesh Railways (west zone), said four bogies of Dhaka-bound intercity train ‘Drutojan Express’ derailed while entering in the station around 2.30pm, halting train movement on the route.
However, there was no report of casualties.
 

Polythene factory fined
Jessore: A mobile court on Thursday night fined a factory Tk50,000 for illegally producing non-biodegradable polythene at Nazir Shankarpur of the district town after 250 kilograms of banned polythene were seized from there, reports UNB.
The mobile court led by executive magistrate Sazia Afrin detected that hanging up the signboard of ‘Bismillah Hatchery and Saleha Metal Industries’ the factory authorities had long been producing polythene bags there without any authorisation and slapped a fine of Tk50,0000.
Earlier, members of Rapid-Action Battalion (RAB)-6 conducted a raid inside the factory and seized 250 kgs of polythene which were being produced at night.
