When his bowling performance in the Test cricket was under scanner, Shakib Al Hasan came up with stellar performance against India  on the rain-affected day three and became the first-ever Bangladesh bowler to take the 100-Test wickets at the home yard. The premier all-rounder of the country came to the Test being criticised for his bowling performance against Pakistan as it was blamed that too much Twenty20 cricket took the gloss off his Test bowling. However being aware of the performance in the longer version cricket, he brought up some adjustment in his bowling and practiced hard which paid the rich dividend as he returned figures with 4-105 before the third day’s game was called off.
He touched the milestone of 100 wicket at home soil in his 28th home Test after dismissing Shikhar Dhawan whose wicket broke the 283 runs opening partnership. Indian batsmen’s aggressive approach though gave him the advantage of taking wickets but his bowling was much improved than the Pakistan series. Sri Lankan spin-wizard Muttiah Muralitharan, who scalped 493 out of his 800 wickets from 133 Tests, was the top most wicket-taker of the world at the home ground. He played 73 to take these wickets.  “I would not know. I just got about it,” Shakib Al Hasan said this at his flat confession at the end of the day’s press conference.
“I feel very good to get 100 wickets at home yard,” he added.
The all-rounder however expressed his gratitude to his childhood coach Nazmul Abedin Fahim, formerly a coach of BKSP and currently the manager of the BCB’s game development.
“To be honest, I was trying to change my action a bit. I had a chat with my coach Fahim sir last night because I wasn’t bowling well in the last three-four Test matches for Bangladesh,” Shakib admitted.
“So I had a chat with him, and he said some of the areas that I can look into and I was trying to do that. That helped me I guess. That helped me a lot. There are some areas in my action that I can improve a lot and then I can be a better bowler.”
“I had to change the position of my foot a bit,” he informed about the technical adjustment he did to get his Test bowling form right.
Asked what helped him being successful against Indian batsmen, he credited IPL and bowling at right channel.
“I know them all very well courtesy to playing IPL.  In a way it has both positive and negative because, they played against me a lot so they know how I ball. What I needed to do is to put the ball in the right areas and wait for their mistakes, because it wasn’t a wicket where you could get wickets. You had to buy wickets, so today I was lucky enough to get those wickets”
Shakib is on the verge of making another milestone in this series. As a batsman, he will cross the 2000-run landmark at home den as he is just five runs short of it. He scored 1995 with two centuries and 14 half-centuries so far.
