Saraswati Puja begins in Barisal

Saraswati Puja, one of the main religious festivals of the Hindu community, began with much festivity and fervour at different educational institutions in the city yesterday. It will continued till today noon. Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, music and arts of Hindu community, was born on the day of Vasant Panchami, fifth day of the bright fortnight of the Bengali month of Magh. On the occasion, different educational institutions in Barisal city set up beautiful puja mandaps with exclusive idols of the goddess Saraswati to celebrate Saraswati Puja and various other programmes. Devotees and students offered sweetmeats, fruits, books and other items to the idols of Goddess Saraswati seeking her blessings. Religious rituals, special prayer, Aroti, discussion meeting, cultural functions also held on this occasion. The idols, articles and items of worshiping the Devi Saraswati sold in Volagiri Asram area of the city at Tk 250 to Tk 25,000.
