President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today greeted the audience, broadcasters, officials and technicians of radio across the globe on the occasion of World Radio Day 2016, reports BSS. In separate messages on the eve of the day, they wished success of all programmes undertaken marking the event. In his message, the President said Bangladesh Betar has been playing an important role in creating mass awareness on different national issues along with broadcasting various programmes related to education, health and agriculture. The radio had played a glorious role during the country's Great War of Independence in 1971, he recalled. The people get the right guidelines through radio during calamities, the President said, adding that radio is still an important medium of reaching information to the rural and remote areas. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her message said the importance of the role of radio during calamities is undeniable.
Radio is still one of the popular media across the world, she said adding that it has the power to reach remote areas across the globe. Being the proud successor of 'Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendro', Bangladesh Betar is one of the powerful media in the country, Sheikh Hasina said, adding that the Betar has been playing an important role in the development of the country, society and culture since its inception. 'Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendro' had played a big role to encourage the nation during the Liberation War, she recalled. Radio is a powerful weapon to encourage people for development activities, the Prime Minister said and hoped the Bangladesh Betar will make new programmes giving importance to the taste of the audience.
