A judicial probe has found the involvement of a police sub inspector (SI) in the alleged sexual harassment of a university student in the city's Mohammadpur area on January 31.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Imdadul Haque yesterday recorded statements of five people, including the victim, and initially found the allegation against accused SI Ratan Halder to be true, said court sources.
Earlier on February 1, a Dhaka court ordered a judicial probe into the allegations of sexual harassment of the private university student by SI Ratan.
Judge Salauddin Ahmed of the Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-4 passed the order after the victim filed a case with the court.
The SI was suspended on January 31, and police formed a two-member body to probe the allegations.
According to the case statement, SI Ratan, along with two constables, intercepted the woman, a student of ASA University, near Japan Garden City in the capital.
After forcing her to get down from the rickshaw, the SI took the woman to a nearby shop where he claimed that the victim was a drug peddler and had 200 Yaba tablets on her. “The policemen searched my bag for about an hour and asked me to take off my jacket and kept using indecent language,” the woman said.
The woman also urged the SI to get a policewoman or do the frisking at the police station, but he didn’t listen, according to the case document.
