Robin: Son of Batman #7

Robin: Son of Batman #7

Robin War continues as Jason, Tim, Damien, and the Robins team up to take on a few Talons. However, there’s something more sinister going on as Dick Grayson confronts Lincoln March.
Robin War has been interesting, nonetheless. It’s a bit of fan-service, in a good way, and we get to see all the Robins, together in one place, fighting a common enemy. This issue is jam-packed with fighting. It’s chaotic and a nice little treat for the week as we get to see our favorite children of Gotham take on one of the New 52’s most infamous new villains.
Patrick Gleason plotted out the issue with Ray Fawkes writing the dialogue here, and the story moves along fine and personally. He writes the Talons’ dialogue exceptionally well and the mixture of these two talented creators creates a pretty fun issue with some nice darker undertones.
The big thing with this issue is the Talons search for the new Gray Son. The last page of the issue is the big reveal and the surprise works well, as this new Gray Son is teamed up with these elite Talons created by March. We’re not going to spoil it here, but expect the finale of this arc, which takes place in Robin War #2 to be pretty epic.
Patrick Gleason is not on art duties here, sadly. Scott McDaniel does the pencils, with Andy Owens on inks, and Chris Sotomayor on colors. For the most part, the art looks great and it’s a nice replacement for Gleason, but there are quite a few bumps in the road with consistency in character’s faces. It’s not the biggest deal, but it was distracting.
Overall, this was one of the more interesting issues of Robin War, which has been a bit underwhelming. There’s a lot happening here with the new Gray Son and new Talons that really grabs the reader in to get ready for the finale. Aside from a few small problems, the art looks good.
